Change the default login and password. The new id and password you create should be such, that no hacker can crack it.

Turn On WPA and WEP Encryption

Wireless connections support some encryption technology. Encryption technology scramble messages before sending through wireless network, so that they cannot be easily read by the unwanted ones. There are different encryption technologies which are used for the security of data. For better performance it is necessary that all the computers sharing a common wireless network should have the same type of encryption technology.

Disable Auto Connect to Open Wi-Fi Networks

Connecting automatically to an open wireless network could pose a security risk for your computer and your personal information. Although in most computers this setting is not enabled. To ensure security of your data it is better to check and disable it.

Enable Firewall in Each Computer and Router

These days, routers have a built-in firewall system, but there are options to disable it. It is recommended not to disable the router firewall system. Make sure that firewall is instilled and is running fine in every system for extra security.

Turn Off Network If Ideal for Long Time

If you are ideal for long time and not using the wireless connection, it is better to turn off the wireless network. It will prevent from the outside hackers; it doesn’t mean that you should turn it off and on every time. You should turn off the network only when you are not using internet for long time.
