Internet Safety Tips For ParentsIn recent times internet has become one of the best modes of communication as well as entertainment for kids. By using the web, kids try to get the latest updates about their topics of interest, communicate with friends and play games. But using the web could pose some risks to kids; since there are many cyber criminals out there who can take undue advantage of these innocent kids. To make sure of your kids safety it is very much necessary for parents to follow some safety measures and guide their kids accordingly. Following are some internet safety tips for parents that should be considered for their child’s safety.

Tips for Parents:

  • It is better to monitor your kid’s internet usage consistently, so that you can know for what purpose he/she is using internet and can guide them if they are in any type of unwanted situation. Monitoring kid’s internet use does not violate their privacy. It is merely a safeguarding measure and is also a part of parent’s responsibility towards their kids.

  • Tell your children not to reveal any personal information (name, address, password, phone number and credit card number etc.) to anybody online, which could be misused by a cyber criminal and could land your child into some trouble. Make your child understand that if anybody asks for any kind of private information they should ignore the request and immediately inform you about it.

  • Monitor your child’s online activities; try to know what type of friends your child has added to his buddy or friend list. Make sure that your kid hasn’t added anyone whom you don’t know and is a stranger. Ask your kids to let you know beforehand about the friends they’re going to add to their friends list.

  • Make sure while your kid is using the internet or while they’re checking emails they aren’t supposed to respond to or click on unwanted links. This type of links can lead to a site which is not appropriate for children or could lead to phished sites.

  • Also, make sure that your child doesn’t provide any personal information in their social networking profile, through which he or she interacts with others on the internet. Let them know that they shouldn’t post any embarrassing photos of others as well as their own. Such photos and information can be used by the internet theft for criminal activities, which can be a problem for your child.

  • Rather then keeping the computer in your kid’s room, it is better to keep the computer in your living room or bedroom. This way you can easily monitor your kid’s internet activities.
