Cable Modem Broadband Broadband is the fastest, cheapest and the most common way to access the internet. It is connected through an ordinary cable wire or DSL. The speed of your DSL broadband connection usually depends on the distance between your house and the provider’s office. So it’s better to choose cable over DSL since it’s more reliable and fast regardless the distance. One main disadvantage of a broadband is that it’s always on, and hence it stands a great chance for security risks and therefore you have to ensure that you have a firewall and an antivirus protection.
Dial-up Connection Dial-up connection is cheap and more secured form of internet connection technology. Dial-up connection allows you to connect through the local server by using standard 56K modem. In this technology computer dials a phone number (provided by your ISP service provider) to connect to the internet. Therefore, as long as you’re connected to the internet your phone line is busy. So you’ll need to see if this is convenient for you, because many friends and relatives may try to call you whilst you’re online.
Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi) Wireless internet connection is a type of internet connection which makes use of radio waves rather then cables and wires. Wireless internet connection provides us the flexibility to access internet remotely. If there are several PCs or laptops in your home/office then use a Wi-Fi connection. You can use a Wi-Fi router to connect several machines simultaneously.
Satellite Internet Connection Satellite internet is an internet connection service which can provide the facility to get connected to internet from any part in the world. It makes use of wave signals through satellite dish. Its downloading and uploading speed is bit slow than cables and DSL connections, provides 500kbps downloading and 50kbps uploading speed.
Internet through Mobile Phone
We can easily access internet through our mobile phone, for this we need to have GPRS settings installed in our mobile phone. GPRS settings are sent to you by your mobile connection service provider. You can connect internet on your computer by using mobile phone, for this you need few data cables to transfer data from computer to mobile and vise versa. One must limit the usage of internet on mobile for security reasons, especially if you’re using it for some important tasks like online banking.
