Try to get as much information as you can get from reviews, from your near ones and try to opt for the best option in terms of value for money. To get a better deal it is advised to follow some tips on buying used cars.

Some Important tips on buying used car:

  1. Decide on the model: - Before buying a used car you should think about your needs, your budget and choice. Try to go through different car models, prices and its technical specifications. Better to settle on a model which suits your lifestyle and image. While buying a used car, age of the car is very important factor. Look for different cars of the same model and compare their performance. Then chose the best and efficient one. If you want to buy a used car and don’t have a good knowledge of cars, take along some one who is familiar to cars components. Try to get the car which is efficient and effective.

  2. Buying Location: - As there are many car dealers, outlets, owners and pre-owners from whom you can buy new or old cars. It is advised to buy through car dealers rather than a second hand dealer. As the car you purchase from a dealer will be systematically checked and they’ll provide you with a service and maintenance warranty. Try to check about dealers authenticity i.e. for how long he is in this business, try to contact any of his old customer and try to get their feedback to check if they’re satisfied or not .You can also buy cars from dealers who promote sales through news paper advertisement or any other classifieds. Classifieds will get you a car directly from the owners. But before you buy the car from the owner try to find out his reason for selling the car. Take permeation to inspect the cars condition by your mechanic. Buying car from owners is on an “as is” basis. And he may not offer you, any type service and maintenance warranty.

  3. Test Drive: - While buying a used car it is essential to take a test drive. Always take the car for a 5-6 km test drive. Try to drive the car in different type of roads and check its performance. Make sure the engine starts rightly, the steering is not vibrating and there is no unusual sound and vibrations. Apply brakes and check that the car is stopping properly in a straight line. Check if the speedometer and mileage recorder are working fine. Check if the clutch is performing well and if the car is moving gently without uneven jerks. Try each gear and make sure that the car doesn’t jump out of gear. Park the car in a level ground and check if there is any oil leak from the engine or gear box.

  4. Payment Options: - If you don’t want to pay at a time, you can get financial help. Look for good finance company, their interest rate, monthly payment options, duration of loan and evaluate it with your budget. You’ll get lots of different attractive offers to lure you. Try to go through the company policy’s and go through the following points

    • The actual price of vehicle.

    • The amount you are going to finance for your car.

    • Monthly payments and duration for payments.

    • Total amount you need to pay(your loan, including service charges and tax + initial payment)

  5. Documents to be checked: - Check all the documents before finalizing a car. Always try to make sure that the documents provided to you are originals. Collect all necessary documents which are needed to change the ownership of the car.

    • Registration certificate: - Check the registration certificate properly. Try to check are they original. Check the engine number and chassis number matches with the registration certificate. Check the state mentioned in the document it should be the same state where you are planning to use the car from, if not ask the seller to change it before you buy the car.

    • Insurance Certificate: - Insurance certificate is an important document which is needed while purchasing a car. By this you can check about any prior accident claim.

    • NOC (No Objection Certificate): - Try to get NOC from the finance company. As NOC provided by the finance company that they have no claim on the car.
