Dipstick usually is a calibrated (high/low) thin metallic stick which is dipped to the engine oil container. As you take out the dipstick you can check the status of your car’s engine oil. Try to check the color of the oil, it should be brown in color and should be transparent. If it is black and opaque, it is necessary to change the engine oil as soon as possible. If the color is in a shade of white (the color of coffee with milk), it means that engine coolant is mixing with engine oil. This is an internal engine problem and the car should be taken to the service center.
- Check Engine Coolant: - Low levels of coolant may cause overheating of the engine, which can cause a serious damage to your engine. Make sure to check for the coolant regularly. If the coolant level is low, refill the coolant till it reaches the normal level. Always check coolant and engine oil when you are going for a long trip by your car. Never open the coolant tank when the engine is hot. If you open the coolant tank while the engine is hot, it may create some pressure in it which can explode and burn your face.
- Check Your Tyres: - Make sure to check the tyre pressure once or twice in a month. Try to get an air pressure gauge to check the air pressure. If you don’t have any idea about tyre pressure, try to go through the user manual. Try to maintain the pressure as mentioned in the owner’s manual. If you feel that your car is vibrating while speeding, you need to align your wheels. If you feel that your car is getting on one side of the road, then there is a problem with wheel alignment. Improper wheel alignment may cause serious damage to the suspension and handling of car. So it is important to sort out the wheel alignment for a smooth and comfortable ride.
- Check Air and Oil Filter: - It is very important to change the air filter and oil filter at regular intervals. If we don’t change these filters on time, it may reduce the cars performance and may cause internal problem to the engine.
- Check Brakes: - It is important to have brakes in good condition for safety as well as for the performance of the car. While applying brakes, if you notice that brakes are squealing or grinding, then you need to change your car brakes. If you feel that your car is being dragged to one side while you apply brakes you need to check the hydraulic pressure. If you feel that the brake isn’t functioning properly then you need to change the brake lining. When you apply brakes, if you find that the brake pedal is too soft, make sure to change the brake fluid.
