Tips to travel with a toddler Travelling on its own could be quite taxing and difficult. Travelling with toddlers is quite difficult; since toddlers are at an odd age for travelling. Toddlers are older than babies, and tend to travel easily as long as you have all the necessary gear and useful travel tips for toddlers.

Some useful tips on making with your journey with a toddler joyful and fun:

  1. Keep in mind that toddlers have very short attention spans. So don' t plan anything too long or boring during your travels. Keep your schedule short and enjoyable.

  2. When travelling with a toddler, try and stick to the routine you follow at home to avoid tantrums. Let your toddler bring favourite stuffed animals, books and toys. Keep the bedtime and naptime routines the same, and as close as possible to the normal time.

  3. Being prepared is the key for pleasant trips and travels. Get along with you more than enough books, crayons and toys to keep your toddlers involved. Buy goodies which are new in the market and well in advance for your trip. When you give your toddler something new to do, there is always an eagerness to learn something new.

  4. Book a hotel which would be centrally located, by doing so you could go back to the hotel for a naptime and feeding time.

  5. Food and drinks are very important while travelling. Carry juice packs along, you could also bring new items which would keep your toddler excited and curious. Try making two bags one that would come in use for the trip and one that would come in use on the way back home. If you are flying keep a watch on what you are carrying, security may seize opened containers.

  6. Try maintaining a proper schedule although you maybe on a vacation and in an unfamiliar area. Keeping to a schedule will be comforting to your toddler otherwise the kid could get quite cranky and unpleasant.

  7. Keep your travel time as short as possible be it air, train or bus. If you will be going on a road trip, split up the driving, stop en route and stay overnight, to ease up the travel for the toddler. Avoid over stimulation, which is easy to do to a toddler when travelling and sightseeing.

  8. If flying by air book comfortable seats with ample legroom. Bulkhead seating at the front of each section provides more comfort while travelling with a toddler as there are no seats ahead.

  9. It’s better for mothers to dress in dark and comfortable clothes. Wearing dark colour clothing is a good idea in case the toddler spills food or milk. Also ensure that the toddler is dressed comfortably to remain at ease.

  10. Ensure that you toddler does not drink local water and uncooked vegetables. Give only pasteurized milk and formula prepared with bottled or mineral water, to your toddler.

  11. If travelling abroad, your toddler will also require a passport. Therefore, apply for a passport well in advance for your toddler and include departure dates to avoid any unnecessary delays in trip plans.

You are assured of a good time, if you are prepared. Expect the unexpected when travelling with a toddler. Plan in advance for your trip and keep the atmosphere comfortable and calm.
