Teenage children indulge in a lot of physical and mental activity. Thus they need extra energy and nutrition to balance their growth. There are many problems related to nutritional imbalance and growth that can occur during teenage.

Nutritional Balance: A teenager’s body is still in the process of growing up. Height, weight, and facial feature are still in the process of growing. However for all the practical purposes a teenager is regarded as a grown up person. But a teenage child needs much more balanced diet as compared to an adult. His growing body demands a lot of energy and nutrition through the right food. So parents should not think that teenagers are already grown up and stop focusing on their diet.

Development of Eyes: Most of the people who wear glasses require it during the teenage years. Development of healthy and long lasting vision is very much dependant on the nutrition that the body gets during the formative years. Vitamin A is an important nutrition required for healthy eyes.

Here are a few dos and don’ts to maintain healthy eyes:

  1. Stop your child from watching television more than 3 hours a day.

  2. Maintain a distance while watching TV.

  3. Include sources of Vitamin A in your child’s diet.

  4. Go for regular eye check up.

  5. Encourage your child to maintain hygiene by washing the eyes after he comes from outside.

Development of Bones: The formation of bones continues to evolve even during the teenage years. Thus the body should be provided with the required amount of calcium in form of foods or supplements. Regular intake of milk is very important for teenagers, and especially for girls.

Puberty: Both male and female reach their puberty during their teenage years. Boys start developing moustache and beards and girls start their menstruation. Puberty brings a lot of changes in teenage girls and boys. Parents should teach their teenage children to deal with these changes. Hygiene is an important habit that teenagers must be taught when it comes to physical changes during puberty.

Emotional Health: Teenage is the right age to teach children how to take care of their mental health all through out the life. Teenage is the time when children find difficult to handle emotions like stress, jealousy, fear, phobia, anger, shyness, excitement, impulse, and so on. If they are taught tips to handle their emotions at this age they can grow up as better and balanced adults.

Teenage is a very sensitive age. It is the formative years for a child’s physical and mental personality. Thus parents should follow health care tips for teens and ensure that their children grow up as good individuals.
