Tips on Kid’s ArtsSubmitted By: david in Arts Tips category
Use Basic Shapes to Draw – Almost every object that you see can be broken down to basic shapes. For example, an apple – circle, a strawberry – triangle, a face – circle etc. When you teach a child to draw, break the subject down to basic shapes and lines. This makes it easier for the child to learn how to draw.
Simplify It – Don’t draw complex drawings, in the sense, don’t overlap objects. Keep things simple. For example if you’re drawing a boy with a dog, draw the dog beside the boy rather than drawing the dog on the lap of the boy. Kids get confused when lines overlap.
Make Your Child Observe – The best way to learn to draw and paint is to study one’s surroundings. So teach your child the importance of being observant and tell your child to study the various shapes of objects around him. Make your child draw objects he sees from different angles. Try to make your child to draw from memory
Draw the Complete Subject – If you’re drawing a cat, drawing the complete subject, in the sense, the cats face, body, legs and tail. Don’t just draw the face of the cat because, it’s easier for the child to understand complete subjects.
Draw Subjects in Simple Views – Either draw the front view of the subject or the side view of the subject while teaching a child to draw. It’s easier for a child to draw a man’s face from its front or side view rather than the view which has the face tilted at 45 degree.
Use the Art Grid – When making a child to copy from a picture, use the art grid concept. Draw a grid on the picture as well as the kid’s drawing paper. Now each portion of the picture is divided into several pictures, which makes it easier for the child to comprehend and draw.
Be Interactive - While teaching kids to draw or paint, ask questions and make the session interactive. For example, while drawing emotions, ask them what does it look like – Is it a happy face or a sad face? In this way you will get the child thinking.
Let the Child Use His Imagination – Once you draw a subject, ask the children to complete the drawing with their own imagination. Like for example if you taught the child to draw a swan, ask them to complete the painting. The child may draw water in the surroundings or a garden. You will be surprised to see how innovative and creative their minds are.
These are some tips on kid’s art which will enable you to imbibe the necessary skills in your child to be able to draw, paint and appreciate art.
