  • Install Paint or Adobe Photoshop on your computer if you don’t have it

But before you select a picture, you need to keep 2 things in mind. First thing is to select simple pictures that can be broken down easily into lines to form the pattern. Secondly, the picture should contain contrasting colors as this will help the software tool to recognize the edges. Pictures that are dark or that have shadows are difficult to convert to patterns. Clip arts, drawings, cartoons etc. on the other hand are easier to convert. The basic idea here is to have the tool to be able to differentiate between the background and the object

    • Load the picture into Photoshop or Paint. Convert the picture to jpg format and crop and trim unwanted areas of the picture.

    • Convert the image to grayscale; this becomes simpler to work with

    • Use the layer tool to trace the object. Once done, delete unwanted lines, converged lines and objects to make the pattern look good and neat.
