Tips on Buying Personal Computers
Submitted By: marc abraham in Computer Tips category
Most of you would be thinking of buying a personal computer but are hesitant to go all by yourself as you feel that you do not have the required knowledge in this field. In fact buying and selling of computer parts can be a lot of fun and earn you profits or save your hard earned money only if you have some knowledge of computers. We are providing here some of the useful tips which you should consider before going out to buy a Pc or a laptop.
- The first step involves your decision i.e. you have to decide what you want a Pc or a laptop. The basic difference is that desk tops are powerful while laptops are portable.
- Decide your budget first before making an impulsive decision. This is very important step because if you do not specify your budget limits then the salesman will always show an expensive system and you will end up burning holes in your pocket.
- Decide the usage of your computer and then buy accordingly. For e.g. if you are going to use the computer only for checking mails and internet browsing then you need not buy any powerful machine whereas if your work involves graphic designing then your computer should be specialized and even needs more RAM.
- Always buy the computer from a reputable company/dealer. Check for warranty which should ideally be from 1-3 yrs. Also check if they offer technical support, customer care numbers etc.
- While most of the people go for branded products it may not hold true in this case. It is not necessary that only a particular brand is good; always research and look around for options.
- Focus more on quality and less on performance.
- Memory: Your new Pc must have at least 256 MB of memory as anything less will slow down your computer. For windows XP you can buy up to 512MB.
- Monitor: for more clarity choose a 19 inch CRT monitor but if that seems too big then go for a 17 inch CRT or LCD monitor. LCD prices keep on changing so they can be easily bargained.
- Connectivity: The latest PC’s today offer a pair of USB port on the front bezel so you can connect multiple peripherals without having to reach behind the case.
- Hard drive: you must have a 60 GB or larger hard drive. A 20GB is suitable for simple word processing or browsing but it will not last long and you will ultimately need more storage space in future. Today the largest hard drives are up to 300GB.
- Software: after assessing your usage go for only the basic software required like operating system, anti virus program and office suite.
- Fancy keyboards: Keyboard is a vital part of computer but that does not means that you should pot for a fancy keyboard with too many keys or fancy LEDs. Always choose the cheapest one unless you have specific requirements.
- It would be foolish to wait for price fall so if you want the Pc then just go for it without any delay.
We hope that after going through these important tips on buying personal computer your buying will become more easy and economical.
