Air conditioners not only cool the air, but truly condition it by removing dirt and dust. It also maintains the humidity of the air making the air more comfortable at any temperature. Air conditioners can account for your good health, but may cost you a lot. If you follow some simple tips while buying and using an air conditioner, you can save a good amount of your investment on it. When buying an air conditioner, first thing that you need to know is what type of AC you need according to your house. You can opt for central air conditioners or room air conditioners according to your need and choice.

Central air conditioners are installed at one place in the building, with ducts blowing cool air in each room to cool the room. It is used to cool the whole building. On the other hand, room air conditioner cools only the room in which it is installed. Central air conditioners provide more comfort but cost a lot in comparison to room air conditioners. There are even more types of room air conditioners depending on the way they are installed in the window or inside the wall. Air conditioners are now being used in almost every house; therefore, there is a need to use it efficiently, so that it consumes less power. Below are some air conditioner tips for saving energy.

Air Conditioner Tips for Saving Energy

Size: The size of the air conditioner that you select for your use should be according to your needs, for the reason that bigger air conditioners may cost you more and consume more power. On the other hand, it would also not serve your need well if the size is not according to your need. Bigger units would not be able to cool the area uniformly. As the area is small, it would cool the air in the room too quickly, resulting in frequently switching on and off of the air conditioner. It would also be a reason for waste of energy, which is depleting at a high pace day by day. Even if you consider the comfort, it will not be able to reduce the humidity and make the air excessively cold even at normal thermostat setting.

Purchasing a too small model is also not advised. An insufficient size of air conditioner will run the whole day, without cooling the area effectively. Before buying the correct size of air conditioner for your room, you need to consider the dimensions of the room you are using it to cool. It has been found that 20 Btu is sufficient for an area of one square foot. Therefore, when buying an air conditioner, just calculate the size required according to the 20 Btu needed, per square feet.

Efficiency: There are many factors that you may take into consideration while you are buying an air conditioner. These may include the size, price, capacity, features, efficiency, etc. Amongst all these features, it is important that you pay more attention to the efficiency of the machine. If you get a choice between two machines with similar features and one of them is more energy efficient but high priced, you should opt for the more efficient model. It may cost you more at the time of purchase, but in the long run, you will be benefitted as it will not cost you more on the electricity bills.

Other Tips: Keep the lights off if you don' t need it or if the room is not in use. Lights generate heat, which makes your AC to work more. It is suggested that you wash and dry clothes or cook in the morning or in the evening. Use of curtains on the window will prevent direct sun light to enter your room. Eliminate excessive opening and closing of the door, as it may allow outside hot air to enter the room.

Above were provided some air conditioner tips for saving energy. Hope it helps you conserve more energy while using the air conditioners.
