Most of the times, you may buy cookies from the market and keep them in your kitchen. However, you can also make cookies at home. Baking cookies is an art as well as science. Some factors which affect the taste and quality of the cookies are the dough quality and ingredients used in it. Below are discussed some tips to make perfect cookies at home.
Tips to make Perfect Cookies at Home
- You should get the correct measurements of the dough you are using for the cookies. Too much of dough may make it hard and dry. To keep it soft, you need to have a proper balance of dough and water. On the other hand, too little of flour would make it mushy. To avoid such problems, you should use a measuring jar while pouring flour for the dough. If you reduce the flour to 1/4th, the cookies prepared will be softer and better. You will get really tender and soft cookies after getting them baked.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for some hours. It will increase the quality of the dough. After getting it chilled, you can easily give it shapes for the reason that it will not easily try to get deformed, as chilled dough is hard but yet doesn’t lower the softness after being baked. Chilling also helps to improve the quality of the dough, as it gets time to relax and as a result increases the flavor.
- You can also use marble rolling pin or a silicone rolling pin which will help you get nice and tender cookies. This process also helps to minimize the wastage of dough during preparation. If the dough gets thick and you feel it uneasy to work with it, you can use stockinet instead of the marble or silicone pin.
- Temperature control of the oven while baking the cookie is also important. The temperature should be regulated with utmost care. Even a slight increase in the temperature can burn your cookies. It would be better if you keep the temperature 5 degrees below the prescribed temperature. Working safe is better than getting it all spoiled. When you are baking so many cookies, reduce the baking time in the oven with every batch of cookies for the reason that the initial temperature of the oven goes on increasing and it may not take time to get heated up as at the first time.
- When you are softening the butter, it would be better to do it at room temperature and with patience. Doing it in the oven may get it melted unevenly. It may also change the consistency and the shape of the cookies.
- It would be better to pre-freeze the dough as it improves the texture of the cookies. Before freezing the dough, make it into balls. It would be better to bake them directly after taking them out of the freezer.
- Baking cookies is not an act that you may do very often. Therefore, the ingredients that you use for it may be months older. It is advised to use fresh ingredients for making cookies. Avoid buying excess of ingredients for the reason that you may use it next time. Better to buy it in limit according to your need.
- Remove the cookies few minutes before the prescribed time. The heat of the cookie sheet will do the rest part of the baking process, even after getting them out.
