There is no perfect time for good photography. Each and every month has its own beauty. However, fall months are good for photography for various reasons. You won' t get those locations any time in the year other than the fall. During fall, the leaves crash down as the trees shed them away. If the leaves have not yet been shed, they may change colors and look really beautiful. Changing of the leaves by the trees is the main reason why most of the people want to do photography during the fall. During the fall, leaves change their color from normal green to vibrant red and orange. Gathering of the leaves on the ground also gives an excellent look. Below are some tips to take best pictures during fall.

  • The first and the last hours of the day have brilliant lighting quality, so it would be better to shoot your photos during this timing. Photography during this timing can yield you excellent photographs. These times are called the magic hours. Natural beauty is at its peak during these hours. These times are perfect to click pictures.

  • Photograph in open place at times when your shadow is longer than your actual height. This usually happens during late in the afternoon.

  • During overcast days, the sun doesn’t drown out the colors and the shadows are softer. You can therefore click pictures during these timings.

  • Using a tripod can be of great help, especially when you are shooting during the dusk. When shooting in such a situation, switch off the flash and set the ISO of the camera to 1000. This will give you a sharper picture and minimize any type of noise if you are taking a video. You can also experiment with your shutter speed. 1–3 seconds of shutter speed can do wonders to your photography. It will give you a clear picture of the foliage and with excellent colors, keeping the rest part a bit blurred.

  • Polarizing your lens can also increase the picture quality. A polarizing filter can increase the contrast in your photos and make your colors richer. Cameras with point and shoot facility will allow you to slightly decrease the exposure timing of the lens. Doing this will help you deepen the saturation in your colors. Later, you can use the photo editing software to increase the contrast and play with colors saturation which will help you warm it up slightly.

  • Adjust with your white balance setting in the camera. Avoid using auto mode and try some experiments. Photography is an art of creativity and therefore you need to show your creativity while capturing photos.

  • Try to use a macro lens or use the macro lens setting if your camera has this function in it. A macro lens will help you have that expert looking close-up snaps of leaves. Tripods are better to be used when you are focusing on leaves to get a closer picture. Taking the help of the tripod will help you focus on the leaves as well as avoid any blur due to cameras shivering or shaking while clicking.

  • Switch your shutter speed to 1/8 mark and zoom in on a part of the foliage. Move your camera side to side while you are clicking. This will give you an image in which the leaves seem to be moving in the wind.

  • You can take some pictures of leaves that may look excellent without clicking them outside. Bring the leaves to your home and stick them to a window pane that allows light to pass through the leaf. Now click the picture of the leaf and you will get an excellent snap.
